An important information for candidate tournaments came this afternoon from the Grand Chess Slam Association. Here is the official press release.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE INCORPORATION TO THE GRAND SLAM CHESS CIRCUIT 2008

In the meeting held on 8th March 2007 by the representatives of the GSCA (Grand Slam Chess Association) and the tournaments that currently form part of It (Corus-Wijk Aan Zee, Ciudad de Linares, M-tel Sofía and Bilbao) among other subjects it was agreed to open a period, ending on 8th May, for receiving the applications in order to incorporate a maximum of three tournaments to the Grand Slam Chess that will begin in 2008.


The candidate tournaments must comply with the following requirements:
•Be at least within the category XIX.
•Establish in the players’ contracts that if winning the tournament the winner will have to take part in the Final Master of the Grand Slam which will be held in Bilbao on the second fortnight of September 2008.


The contender tournaments must send a letter stating their desire to participate in the Grand Slam to the e-mail address shown below, or might personally present their candidacies to the GSCCA in Sofía on 8th May (if that is the case). The letter must be accompanied by an explanatory report with all the relevant details of the project which will include at least:


1)City, place, dates and characteristics of the playing hall.
2)Format of the Tournament (no. of players, game system, rules, …)
3)System to avoid the non fighting draws.
4)Approx. budget for the whole Tournament.
5)Awards and global retributions for the players.
6)Sponsors.
7)Organisers of the Tournament.
8)Media: In addition to the location and characteristics of the press room, the report must specify the obligations planned to be requested from the players in relation to the journalists and whether they will have invitations o reduced prices for accommodation.
9)Main elements and sections on the Website of the Tournament.
10)Description and budget for other activities related to the main Tournament.
