Ivan Cheparinov

Ivan Cheparinov was born 20 years ago on Nov. 26th in Asenovgrad, Bulgaria. Coached by his father, Nedelcho Cheparinov, Ivan started playing chess at the age of five. Seven years later, when barely reaching his teen years, he won the junior chess title of Bulgaria. In 2000 he claimed the third place on Wijk an Zee, working up the IM norm and catching the eye of manager, Silvio Danailov. In 2004 Ivan became national champion of Bulgaria and received his GM status in October the same year.
The young man showed affiliation for wining European opens,
especially in Spain, where he won 6 first places. He came up 5th in
Corus B 2005 with 7,5/13. The tournament performance brought his rating from 2000 ELO to 2635 (October 2006).
Currently Ivan Cheparinov is the second of Veselin Topalov. He is dedicated to computer analysis and his hard work reflected in the stunning novelty moves that Vesselin Topalov showed on the world championship in Elista 2006. As he shared many times, computers are fundamental when it comes to calculating possible lines in chess games. Besides having passion for computers, Ivan is a big soccer fan.
Ivan’s latest achievement was the first place in the open group in the Essent Open in Hoogeveen.
