MTel Masters 2007 Tournament in Sofia, now running in its third year, promises to be a celebration of fighting chess. The invitation roster is impressive. We will reveal the full information in about 10 days when the complete list is confirmed

In this day and age when the lack of competitive ethic in Chess is making headlines, the question of how to eliminate short draws is a subject of discussion at various levels. We are pleased to confirm that the much acclaimed “Sofia rules” will be in place again.

Many readers sent us mails asking if Vladimir Kramnik will be present at the tournament. The answer was given by Silvio Danailov in an interview for Sport Express.

Q: Kramnik won’t be invited?
A: Well, if Kramnik’s manager says that they won’t talk or greet us, then why wasting our time? But we will see.

The players at Mtel Masters were announced in a press release on March 23. Here is the full list:

1. Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria, ELO 2783)
